Electrification project launched by WMG and Jaguar

The Warwick Manufacturing Group and Jaguar Land Rover have formed a prosperity partnership to develop and enhance vehicle electrification.
Funded by a £5.7m grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Council (EPSRC), this will work towards the UK government’s target of widespread ultra-low emission vehicles by 2050. WMG will combine its battery research centres with Jaguar Land Rover’s aim of combining electrification on its petrol and diesel engines.
Professor Barbara Shollock, from the WMG, said: “This Prosperity Partnership will tackle the emerging challenges for vehicle electrification through a unique collaboration to grow scientific understanding. This integrated approach brings the potential for the UK to lead, both industrially and scientifically, in an area of high growth and relevance in the UK's industrial strategy.”
Energy systems and advanced propulsion have already been identified as starting points for further investigation. The research will focus on bearing and gear surfaces, electric machines and power electronics.
This award is one example of the Prosperity Partnerships which will receive £31m of government funding from the EPSRC and the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF). This will be matched by a further £36m from partner organisation plus £11 from various partner universities, totalling £78m.
