Sampling the best of the latest Laboratory News issue

The new edition of Laboratory News, available now, explores the growing importance of integrity, quality and resilience across the laboratory sector.

From the role of analytical testing in supporting commercial decisions and the energy transition, to the challenges of maintaining sample integrity throughout the scientific process, this issue examines how robust systems and informed decision-making underpin reliable outcomes.

We also consider the importance of professional standards, laboratory design and risk management, alongside expert commentary, industry news and the latest products helping laboratories operate more effectively.

The edition also marks the relaunch of our regular section examining applied laboratory practice, The Knowledge.

It is now being organised around a central theme, beginning with sample integrity in this issue. The section has also been expanded to three features focussed on core science, lab fit-out and ‘foundational’ labs including schools.

Among the feature highlights are:

Mining with integrity pg 12
How laboratory testing is determining mining companies’ business and investment decisions and improving assessment accuracy.

Carbon conundrums pg 19
Examining whether the ethical case for renewable technologies can be matched by industry’s ability to scale sustainably and responsibly from what is achieved in the laboratory.

Professional recognition in science pg 23
Why achieving Chartered Biologist status represents more than a post-nominal title and how it supports career development and professional standards.

Sample integrity in focus pg 29
Launching our new Knowledge section with an exploration of the critical role sample integrity plays in ensuring reliable scientific results.

Laboratory fit-out and planning pg 35
How thoughtful design, ergonomics and early-stage planning can prevent costly mistakes and improve laboratory performance.
