This mosaic of the Caloris basin (main image) on the surface of the planet is an enhanced colour composite overlain on a monochrome mosaic.

Caloris basin has been flooded by lavas that appear orange. In this enhanced colour view of the peak-ring basin Derain (right), the different colours accentuate the different rocks associated with the basin. MESSENGER entered Mercury orbit on March 17, 2011.
