An alternative solution to rotary evaporators for solvent evaporation
Concentrators (nitrogen blowdown concentrators) are increasingly used as an alternative to rotary evaporators because they evaporate solvents quickly while saving valuable laboratory space. Evaporation is accelerated by lowering the solvent’s partial vapour pressure above the liquid surface.
These systems use either a heated water bath or dry block heating with programmable temperatures, combined with a nitrogen purge, to deliver rapid evaporation. The purge gas and evaporated solvent are removed safely through an integral exhaust system connected to laboratory extraction or a fume hood.
Analytix offers four LabTech concentrators covering six, 12 and 64 samples, plus a system for 96-well plates. The mid-range 12-position MultiVap handles 50 and 200 ml cups simultaneously and features automatic liquid end-point detection using infrared sensors. Most systems support multiple vial sizes and include a touch-screen terminal for simple programming.
