Deep ocean garbage

Plastic debris has been found in the deepest part of the ocean.
As part of The Five Deeps expedition, US explorer Victor Vescovo travelled 10,927 metres to the bottom of the Challenger Deep, the southern end of the Pacific Ocean’s Mariana Trench. As well as potentially four new amphipod species, Vescovo found a plastic bag and sweet wrappers on the ocean floor. Earlier this year, ingested microplastics were found in Lysianassoidea amphipods in deep ocean trenches around the Pacific Rim.
