The Pistoria Alliance has launched the next phase of its blockchain project, focused on life science R&D use cases.
The phase of the project will involved a workshop at which the alliance’s blockchain interest community will aim to develop a potential use case to the proof-of-concept stage.
Dr Steve Arlington, President of The Pistoia Alliance, said: “We believe blockchain has an important role to play in the life science sector and want to solidify use cases now so the whole industry can realise the value sooner.
It will be examining three areas where blockchain has the potential to improve: data identity, data integrity and data sharing. It will also identify the applications of blockchain that will provide little value to the industry.
The Pistoia Alliance, a not-for-profit science alliance that aims to lower barriers to innovation, is running webinars and workshops to support those interested in implementing the technology.
Jake Dreier, Blockchain Project Manager and Consultant for The Pistoia Alliance, said: “There are still many misconceptions about blockchain in the life science industry that we need to work hard to overcome. Unfortunately, people’s perceptions have led to some organisations completely avoiding blockchain technology, and many others unsure of how it can benefit them.”
