Spectacular image of the Rosette Nebula
20 Jun 2018 by Evoluted New Media
This spectacular image is of the Rosette Nebula and is in the direction of the constellation Monoceros about 5,000 Light Years away from Earth.
The estimations for the size of the Rosette vary greatly but it is at least 50 LY across and may extend to more than double this distance.
This version of the image is photographed using three filters to capture specific wavelengths of certain ionized gases, hydrogen, oxygen and sulphur. The data is then mixed using the Hubble Palette.
The image is by leading astro photographer Chris Baker and is part of his wall art collection known as Galaxy on Glass. He created this image in conjunction with the astronaut Col. Al Worden the Command Module Pilot of Apollo 15. More can be seen at www.galaxyonglass.com
