A European Commission-funded project has launched to improve facilities, resources and services for the EU-wide science community.
The Mapping of the European Research Infrastructure Landscape (MERIL) portal was established in 2010 to provide access to a database containing information about openly accessible research opportunities. A beta version of the new three-year MERIL-2 project went live last month.
Ana Helman, MERIL Coordinator at the European Science Foundation, said: “The original MERIL project was widely recognised as a valuable initiative; however in practice it faced a number of significant challenges and limitations. Now with renewed resources, an expanded team and having learnt from previous efforts, we believe MERIL-2 will realise the potential that such an initiative has to connect and inform the policy and research communities.“
MERIL-2 will improve the visibility of research infrastructures to scientists, due to an improved ability to retain and display information about their resources. It will also assist policy-makers to analyse and optimise funding on a national and European research infrastructure, as they will be able to better see gaps and synergies in the framework.
The second generation MERIL portal can be accessed at: http://portal.meril.eu.
