Huddersfield University will be one of a number UK institutions opening their doors as part of the European Researchers Night on the 30th September.
This Europe-wide event attracts more than one million people across the continent and will be held in several UK university towns and cities. The theme for Huddersfield University will be Full STEAM — Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths — Ahead.
Research and Impact Officer at the University, Esmay Walker, said: “We’re delighted to be able to hold this open-door event. It gives everyone in the area a chance to see what difference researchers make to our everyday lives in an involved, hands-on way. We are hoping that we can inspire older children to consider a career in research and help people to understand how important research is.”
Attractions will include The Magic of Science and high energy chemistry activities for budding scientists. The National Children’s Museum, Eureka, will also be joining the University to offer a range of activities. Other events for the European Researchers Night will take place across the UK in London, Oxford, Manchester, Newcastle and Belfast and parts of Scotland.
Last year, more than 280 cities took part in this annual event. The events are funded by the European Commission as part of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions. This programme aims to boost European research careers.
