An imaging company which develops images and diagnostic software for the dental industry has received a £265,000 investment.
Manchester Imaging, a spin out from Manchester University, is working on early stage detection of tooth decay and other dental problems.
Tony Traver, CEO at Manchester Imaging said: “We hope by empowering practitioners and patients to better identify potential problems, we will be able to save local services’ and insurers’ money, whilst ensuring that people have healthy teeth and gums right into old age.”
The spinout secured funding from Co Angel Investment, a service provided by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) to link businesses with investors.
Currently, Manchester Imaging has four brands in development: Cariesdent, Osteodent, Implant Advisor 1 and 2. They are all designed to detect early stage enamel decay and other dental issues earlier, allowing patients to look after their teeth more effectively.
The company uses Active Shape Models and Active Appearance Modelling, methods created at Manchester University, as diagnostic tools for dentistry.
It was founded by Professor Hugh Devlin and Dr Jim Graham, both from Manchester University.
Traver said: “The team at Co has been instrumental as part of our development process in preparing us for investment, introducing us to the angel investors and helping us to secure the investment which allows Manchester Imaging to continue development of its core product portfolio, the services of which are a first for the dental care sector.”
