ZEISS and ECR microscopy partnership drives success

Optics technology company – ZEISS – has announced expansion of its multi-year partnership with the high-performance engine production company ECR Engines.
ECR will use microscopes, provided by ZEISS, for quality control, research development and failure analysis work of Chevrolet engines for numerous racing competitions.
Quality Manager and Engineer for ECR Jim Suth said: “We are proud of this new partnership with ZEISS, the leader of the microscopy industry. Having access to the latest advanced, analytical technology from ZEISS will be an asset and provide us a distinct advantage that will undoubtedly translate to success.”
To study the different types of component wear and material fatigue, ECR will use the latest scanning electron microscopes. This will allow engineers to test security of both new part acceptance and failed part corrections. ECR will use a light microscope for macro scale imaging, failure analysis of larger parts and sample preparation electron microscopy.
The project – part of the company’s implementation of cleaner components, stronger materials and higher performing lubricants – will check for occurrences of premature wear and fatigue that can lead to catastrophic failure.
