Greek academics cut off from publishers

By failing to maintain payments, Greek universities and research institutes will no longer have access to scholarly publishers.
As a result of the Greek crisis, the system Hellenic Academic Libraries Link (HEAL-Link) providing Greek academics with scholarly publications has been terminated from the 1 July.
“Universities have no budget for research,” a spokeswoman told Research Europe.
For the past year, in which universities and research institutes were incapable of maintaining payments, HEAL-Link has been covering the costs of the publishing licences. Recently, they announced that they are unable to continue the funding but will negotiate with publishers.
Until new agreement is reached, Greek academics will have access to journal archives for all articles within the license period that has just terminated but will not have access to new publications.
