Innovate UK has announced that applications for business funding from the Industrial Biotechnology Catalyst – worth £34 million – are now open.
Another £2.5 million was also announced for business-led feasibility studies of new biofilms-related products and services. The Catalyst funding – run by Innovate UK, the Biological Sciences Research Council, and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council – will support research and development for the processing and production of materials, chemicals and biotechnology.
The biotechnology funding applications opened on 21 May and offers five types of awards including early stage translation, early stage technical feasibility studies, industrial research, late stage technical feasibility studies and late stage experimental development. It could range from up to £250,000 for feasibility studies and to £10 million for experimental development.
The £2.5 million funding for biofilms research is part of a national programme that will support projects from companies of any size working alone or with partners. It will enable organisations with biofilm problems to engage effectively with universities, research organisations and other companies to develop novel solutions.
The competition for this funding opens on 15 June 2015 and the deadline for applications is at noon on 16 September 2015. A briefing day will be held in London on 18 June 2015 for potential applicants.
