The Pistoia Alliance – an alliance of life science organisations – has launched a new project that they call Map of Alliances. With it, they plan to catalogue various life sciences consortia, partnerships, foundations and alliances.
The project will aim to record how the myriad of collaborations –including commercial businesses, not-for-profits and academic partners – form and are connected across the life science sector. It will map the function of each alliance and examine their connections, similarities and differences.
Richard Holland, Executive Director of operations at the Pistoia Alliance said: “The life sciences sector is incredibly vibrant, meaning that there is a host of collaborative efforts involving life sciences R&D organisations. However, these efforts can sometimes overlap, so the Map of Alliances is an attempt to formally describe the collaboration landscape and work out exactly where we all fit together.”
The project will establish an expert community to map the global industry associations, alliances and initiatives. Pistoia Alliance say the result will be a detailed ‘web’ that will allow the industry to identify rapidly their partners and competitors and will allow them to find the best way to support each other and cooperate.
The Pistoia Alliance is now running a preliminary survey of the collaboration landscape in order to understand what collaborations exist and who is involved.
