New molecular biology laboratories and office space for growing biotechnology businesses, named the Bennet Building, were formally opened at the Babraham Research Campus.
The building is part of a £44 million development programme funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).
“I am delighted to see the Bennet Building open as part of a £44 million BBSRC investment at the Babraham Research Campus,” said Dr Celia Caulcott, BBSRC Executive Director for Innovation and Skills.
The facility was constructed and managed by Babraham Bioscience Technologies who will aim to further develop and grow commercial life science business by providing additional support for the research campus. The building was officially opened by Dr Menelas Pangalos, Executive Vice President at Astra Zeneca.
“The UK is a world leader for bioscience research, making contributions here and around the world in areas such as health, food and energy production,” said Dr Celia Caulcott.
There are approximately 60 companies working at Babraham Campus - and both academic science and commercial companies will benefit from the existing expertise, facilities and community.
“The Bennet Building allows scientists working on developing bioscience businesses to stay close to the excellent academic work taking place at the Babraham Research Campus, whilst providing the best facilities and support to help their companies to thrive,” said Dr Caulcott.
