Chemical technologies company Asynt fought off strong competition to be voted winners at this year’s Lions Lair at Lab Innovations. The Cambridge-based firm successfully persuaded the Lions that their PressureSyn high pressure reactor was the most innovative product. “It is always an honour to be recognised by your peers,” said Martyn Fordham, Managing Director at Asynt. “We didn’t achieve this alone, our innovation was created in conjunction with the University of Nottingham, leading to a winning combination. Our PressureSyn is a simple product that helps ensure a safe environment for those working within chemistry research labs. We are certainly thrilled to have won. ” PressureSyn has been designed to work on any magnetic hotplate stirrer; its inbuilt safety features comprise of a double pressure relief system, including bursting disk and pressure relief valve. The 125 ml reactors are certificated and rated to a maximum pressure of 100bar and temperature of 200°C. The innovative design allows for a higher level of safety than is often associated with pressure vessels used in laboratories. The company were up against three other exhibitors – Cleaver Scientific, Spex Certiprep and Metrohm – all pitching their most innovative product. This year’s Lions included Phil Prime, Managing Editor at Laboratory News, Phillip Broadwith, Business Editor of Chemistry World, Kasia Wincoirek, Laboratory Manager at DNA Electronics, and Yahya Akudi, QC Lab Manager at Nuarfarm.
