A fire has broken out in a third floor chemistry laboratory at the University of East Anglia.
This is the second time this year that the Fire Service has been called to the Chemistry section of the Teaching Wall at the University. A hazardous substance officer is also believed to be at the scene say EDP24.
A UEA spokesperson said: “The Fire Brigade is currently dealing with a fire in the Chemistry Section of the Teaching Wall. The building has been evacuated,” while a second reports that there were no injuries.
The BBC report 12 fire engines were in attendance following the 999 call at 10.24am, while @norwich999, the Twitter feed of the local radio station report that 50 firefighters were dealing with a “significant” fire.
Fire crews were called to the Norwich campus in April this year after reports of a fire, although this fire had been dealt with before their arrival due to a special carbon dioxide gas flooding system in place at the university.
The University tweeted at 1.34pm to say the fire had been extinguished, and the cause is still being investigated.
