To mark its 50th anniversary in 2015, the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust is to invest £1.2m in British citizens by awarding a record number of Travelling Fellowships. In particular, the Trust are interested in those working in the communications of science and technology, and anyone interested in new ways to encourage engagement in science. In total, 150 fellowships are up for grabs, and will directly support those wanting to travel overseas to gain knowledge, experience and best practice to benefit their profession and communities, and society as a whole. Successful applicants must demonstrate the commitment, character and tenacity to travel globally in pursuit of tackling a range of current challenges facing the UK. Upon their return, they are expected to transform and improve aspects of today’s society. Applications are judged purely on merit and successful applicants will receive an average of £6,000 to cover return airfare, daily living costs, insurance and travel within the countries being visited. Placements are open to any UK resident, and last for around six weeks. Applications can be made via www.wcmt.org.uk until 5pm on 23rd September 2014. The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust was established shortly after Churchill’s death in 1965 as his national memorial and living legacy. It has awarded over 4,820 fellowships since that date.
