S-Lab Awards call for entrants

S-Lab – in conjunction with the National HE STEM program – is looking for entries for the Effective Laboratory Awards 2012.
The awards will recognise good practice in laboratory design, operation and management in all sectors, and in lab-based teaching and learning within education institutions.
There are seven categories open to laboratories and organisations in any sector: laboratory effectiveness; laboratory environmental improvement; laboratory equipment and services; laboratory-based teaching and learning innovation; making a difference; new or refurbished laboratories; and schools and colleges. The awards take the form of a two stage entry process. The first requires applicants to complete a short form by 29th February. Successful applicant will be notified by mid-March and required to fill out a second stage of entry providing more information by 27th April.
The winners will be judged on benefits; completeness; effort; originality, significance and cost effectiveness. Winners will be announced during the Effective Laboratory Conference in York on 12th and 13th June.
S-Lab are a not for profit activity which aims to develop better links and mutual understanding between different groups involved in laboratory design and operation so that they can work more effectively and therefore meet the financial and other challenges they are under, said S-Lab director professor Peter James.
