Water droplet
15 Jul 2019
This amazing image – Crack Patterns I, by Thomas Séon – shows a water droplet falling onto a silicon substrate at -36°C...
As the water spreads out the thin layer in contact with the surface freezes almost instantly. A liquid layer then retreats under surface tension to form a spherical cap.
The image is part of Art in Research book Visions in Science. Born in 2017, Art in Research is the first art gallery dedicated to scientific photography. With the aim of revealing unsuspected beauty in scientific research.
