Bruntwood scheme promises top level support to life science innovators

Bruntwood SciTech has launched a new programme with significant government funding to provide support and facilities for early stage life science companies.
Its new Life Science Accelerator programme at Alderley Park in Cheshire will cater for firms from across the UK with successful applicants on the six month programme accessing specialist laboratory incubation support and business model development.
The project is being funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which has overall committed £2.6 billion to local investment in the period up to March 2025.
In addition to this Bruntwood SciTech partners including Triple Chasm, ThermoFisher Scientific, Marks & Clerk, Pharmalytical Services, Mercia Ventures and Praetura Group will provide commercial expertise.
The applicant intake will be limited to a maximum of 10 early-stage life science venture companies who will each received support valued at around £60,000.
Dr Kath Mackay, chief scientific officer at Bruntwood SciTech said: “Our mission is to empower these companies to bring their innovative ideas to fruition, ultimately contributing to the advancement of the life sciences sector and the broader economy.
“Launching this programme at Alderley Park allows participants to tap into the vibrant ecosystem of scientific companies and foster valuable networking opportunities, enriching the community and driving further collaboration.”
Those accepted for the programme will receive complimentary laboratory access, as well as access to pay-per-use scientific equipment via the Open Access Lab, equating to £20,000-worth of laboratory support and kit access, states Bruntwood SciTech.
In addition, experts in the sustainable commercialisation of science and technology-enabled innovation, Triple Chasm, will provide advice plus tools and programmes aided by data from more than 3,000 products that have been taken to markets worldwide.
Focus areas will include developing commercialisation plans for areas including market space definition, proposition framing, customer definition, distribution, marketing and sales, IP management, and funding.
Meanwhile, Pharmalytical Services will offer utilisation support for laboratory equipment while recipients will get £10,000 in flexible financial support, to aid investment in essential laboratory supplies or professional advice.
The 400 acre Alderley Park site houses more than 250 science and technology businesses, which have together secured nearly £50 million in new R&D-linked funding over the last year reviewed.
