Basel braces for anything up to 3,000 innovators, industry leaders and practitioners attending the global event at the city’s Congress Centre, from 26-27 June 2024.
For newcomers, it’s hard to conceive the sheer scale of Future Labs Live: up to 200-plus expert speakers, 100 key exhibitors representing some of the best known brands worldwide, 100 start-ups and anything up to 3,000 attendees. Even in a city the size of Basel in Switzerland, it’s a sizeable addition to the population.
Staged over two full days, it bills itself as sector agnostic, covering biotech, pharma, chemicals, food and beverage, agricultural, materials and FMGC (fast moving consumer goods), among others.
Its range of themes is similarly comprehensive: AI & machine learning; digital transformation; smart lab; sustainability; lab operations and efficiency; data management; automated, integrated and interoperable discovery; connectivity and collaboration; and training and development.
While the list of speakers is too many to list, a selection of the companies and institutions represented offers a flavour of the range of participants: Bayer, Roche, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Unilever, IBM Research, University of Southampton, My Green Lab, Fraunhofer, Siemens, university Medical Centre in Göttingen, BASF and AstraZeneca.

All conference sessions are delivered in English and the list encompasses panel discussions, technical presentations, roundtables and pre-event workshops. A complete agenda for both days can be viewed on the website.
The conference is of course just one key aspect of the overall show. It is additionally an opportunity to view the best and the latest technology on offer up close and to quiz company experts on their exhibition stands. Siemens, Tecan and CBRE are just three of the sponsors, with a wide array of internationally known established brands exhibiting, alongside a varied contingent of start-ups.
The latter feature also in one popular feature of the event – start-up pitches that offer the opportunity for new projects to hone their delivery and make essential networking contacts; a benefit also on offer to all attending the Future Labs Live after-show party.
