2 Jul 2024
The final opportunity to take part in the premier awards for the UK and Ireland’s laboratory professionals is approaching fast but there’s still just enough time for you to enter.
Entries to this year's prestigious Lab Awards must be in by 19 July, in order to be considered for the free opportunity to enter.
Apply now via the online submission portal here and your nominee could be stepping up for an award at the event, staged at the annual Lab Innovations Show, to be held at the NEC, Birmingham from 3pm on 30 October, 2024.
The Lab Awards, hosted by Lab Innovations in partnership with Laboratory News, features opportunities for recognition for everyone connected to the lab industry.
Since its inception, the number of awards has grown rapidly. This year the categories include: Outstanding Achievement; Laboratory of the Year; Smart Lab of the Year; Sustainable Lab of the Year; Lab Technician of the Year; Rising Star; Supplier Excellence; Best Sustainable Innovation; Best Technology Innovation; Best Automation & Data Innovation; Best Consumables Innovation; Best Collaborative Project; and Commitment to Skills & Training.
In 2024, the Lab Awards will embody inclusivity and acknowledgement of all members of the laboratory community. And in order to restore the community feel to its awards show Lab Innovations plans to hold it in the heart of the show floor, towards the conclusion of the busy first day, ensuring the 2024 Lab Awards will be a platform for professionals to celebrate professionals.
Two of last year’s winners, leading names from the lab community shared their thoughts on the significance of the ceremony.
"It’s important for all companies to demonstrate what they’re doing best because it pushes everyone to strive to be better,” explained Dr Diane Turner, founder and director at Anthias Consulting and winner of the 2023 Supplier Excellence award. “To demonstrate that to the world through these awards is, I think, really important."
"This is going to go in pride of place in my office,” exclaimed Matthew Bramley, managing director at Trafalgar Scientific, upon receiving the Outstanding Achievement award. “It does give us a lot of prestige and I’ll smile every time I look at it."

After the submission deadline on July 19, a panel of experts from all corners of the UK laboratory industry will assemble to judge the entrants and compile an elite shortlist, announced in early September. The judges for this year are yet to be announced, with previous rosters including Gerald Law, chief executive at Innovation DB and Jiteen Ahmed, head of technical services at Aston University and chair of the laboratory group at the Southern Universities Procurement Consortium (SUPC).
"The Lab Awards, and the wider Lab Innovations show, don’t exist without the marvellous people that we want to applaud with these awards,” said Simon Farnfield, event director at Lab Innovations and its co-located sister show, Advanced Engineering. “This is their opportunity to receive the plaudits that they deserve for tireless and innovative work all year round."
