A new report identifies best practice and strategic developments in laboratory design, management and operation.
The report is published by the Safe, Successful, Sustainable Laboratories (S-Lab) initiative. This links key laboratory stakeholders such as researchers, lecturers, technical support, estates and facilities, designers and suppliers. The publication accompanies the opening of the 2013 S-Lab Awards to applications (with a closing date of Jan 28) and the launch of the 2013 Effective Laboratory conference (at the University of Liverpool on June 18-19). It summarises and draws lessons from presentations and discussions at the 2012 Effective Laboratory conference, and contains case studies of the 28 shortlisted entries for the 2012 S-Lab Awards. It also identifies essential features of Effective Laboratories and has a foreword by Sir Ian Diamond, V-C of the University of Aberdeen and Chair of the Universities UK Efficiency and Modernisation Task Group.
S-Lab Director Professor Peter James comments: “The S-Lab Awards and Conference discussions have shown that laboratory design and use can be improved in ways that are beneficial to performance, operating costs, safety and the environment, and help owners to respond more effectively to their current financial pressures.”
