The Cambridge Computational Biology Institute (CCBI) has been launched with the aim of bringing together medicine, biology, mathematics and the physical sciences.
It aims to create a centre of excellence in research and teaching, and hopes to promote collaboration within Cambridge and beyond. The research will cover a diverse range of topics from the basic genetics of bacteria through to developmental biology, evolutionary biology and the complex cell biology of human disease, as well as the emerging field of systems biology.
The institute was launched with a symposium that attracted international experts to discuss subjects ranging from neuroscience to engineering, mathematical biology and physics.
“We are very pleased with the number of people who attended the symposium as it reiterates our belief that this is a very exciting field,” said Dr Gos Micklem, Director of the CCBI. “We are looking forward to some interesting collaborations in the near future.”
