We’ll stick to toothpaste and a regular toothbrush |
The toothbrush has already been tested in cultures of bacteria that cause periodontal disease and inventor, Dr Kunio Komiyama said: “The brush causes complete destruction of bacterial cells.”
Komiyama – a dentistry professor emeritus at the University of Saskatchewan ¬– first had the idea for a solar powered toothbrush 15 years ago. Together with his colleague Dr Gerry Uswak, he has developed his latest version, the Soladay-J3X, which will be manufactured by the Shiken company of Japan.
The pair is planning to recruit 120 teenagers to test the toothbrush to see how it compares to a normal manual brush. It has already won first prize at the FDI Annual World Dental Conference in Dubai.
